NEW SHOWS HITTING 2010-2011

Are you ready for some fresh new blood in the SCI FI arena this season? We have vampires, superheroes, and just a little apocalypse to contend with. Here's the rundown on some of the best (that I haven't already reported on)

No Ordinary Family:

The Powells are pretty much your average, everyday American family. That is until their plane crashes in the Amazon jungle. After that, well, let's just say the Powells are a little less ordinary. Jim is a frustrated police sketch artist married to Stephanie, a brilliant and successful scientist. Although they still love each other, their marriage has lost some of its spark. All of that changes, though, when Stephanie takes Jim and their two teenage kids along on a research trip to the Amazon, The Powell's plane crashes into a swampy river; they manage to escape, but, their pilot, unfortunately, isn't so lucky. As the Powells gratefully return to their old lives, they are shocked to discover that they have suddenly developed some rather extraordinary abilities. Jim is super strong with amazing reflexes. Stephanie can suddenly move at lightning speed. Daphne can hear everyone's thoughts including those of her 16-year-old-boyfriend, ick! Then there's JJ, who miraculously goes from clueless to brainiac, seemingly overnight. The Powells are reinvigorated by their new powers, but they quickly discover that the toughest challenges may be the most ordinary ones. Sure, they can stop criminals, but all the super powers in the world can't fix emotional problems. The Powells better get their act together, soon, though, because that pilot they left for dead at the bottom of a river... he just woke up.

Can't wait to see a bit more Benz back on TV!!!! Benz stars with Michael (the shield) Chiklis....it kinda looks like a live action version of THE INCREDIBLES. If it's well acted and executed then I have no problem with that comparison!!

The Event:

An emotional high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker, an Everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his fiancee, Leila, and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history. Sean's quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including: newly elected U.S. President Martinez; Sophia, who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Sean's shadowy father-in-law. Their futures are on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind.

Now THIS looks interesting....we've got a kinda LOST/FLASHFORWARD/INDEPENDENCE DAY vibe from the trailer.........looking forward to some intelligent SCI FI.........oh wait, that doesn't usually do so well with the slightly more inbred fans..........oh well, I hope they wrap it up in the first season then!!!

OUTCASTS:

The BBC has commissioned a new eight-part sci-fi series from Ashes To Ashes producer Kudos.

Outcasts follows a diverse group of people who are living in a small town on a fictional planet that has been colonised by humans. These pioneers are helping build a new community far away from their loved ones and are optimistic about their future, but the planet holds many mysteries which threaten to destroy the fragile peace.

The cast includes Hermione Norris (Spooks), Danny Mays (Ashes To Ashes), Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) and Ashley Walters (Small Island).

The series is currently being filmed in South Africa for transmission in the Autumn on BBC One.

I'm sure we can expect some high quality acting/production......whether it'll be good enough to give it a chance with the more conservative BBC viewers is another matter. It better be good as it's walking in big shoes.........recently vacated by ASHES TO ASHES and SURVIVORS.

Game of Thrones:

Lena Headey, Sean Bean and Jason Momoa has been ordered for a full season- watch for it in 2011.

HBO is taking a gamble on the fantasy genre, and it’s a fairly safe bet at that. The cable network has commissioned a pilot based on George R.R. Martin’s phenomenally successful “A Song of Fire & Ice” series. The title of the project will be “Game of Thrones,” which is the title of the first book in the series.

According to Variety, “Game of Thrones” will join better than a dozen other series hopefuls as HBO seeks to expand their slate of original programming. Spearheading the project are writers David Benioff (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and D.B. Weiss (The “I Am Legend” Prequel).

The books are set in a purely fantasy landscape, the land of Westeros where seasons last for years instead of months. The series takes place years after a civil war had divided a union of seven kingdoms. A vast array of characters interact in a mixture of clan warfare and peace.

Not read the book, but HBO seem to do quality production pretty well.....I'll check out the pilot and make my mind up from there.........Although Lena HEADY should make it good viewing if she's dressed as a medieval maiden!!!

HAVEN:

Based off his The Colorado Kid short story. Except, well, it’s not so much an adaptation of the story, as it is a jumping off point — the show will use the story’s basic premise and go in a completely different direction. The big news is that the SyFy Channel has just picked it up for a 13-episode order, even though from everything I’ve read, it’s not so much a sci-fi show as it is a thriller, or a paranormal-ish show. Okay, that’s kinda sci-fi, I guess.

“Haven” centers on a spooky town in Maine where cursed folk live normal lives in exile. When those curses start returning, FBI agent Audrey Parker is brought in to keep those supernatural forces at bay — while trying to unravel the mysteries of the town. In the original story, the lead was an ambitious reporter, but I suppose that wouldn’t make much of a show. A hot FBI agent in fashionable pumps is bound to look more attractive onscreen, I suppose.

Scott Shepherd will run the show on “Haven”, while Lloyd Segan and Shawn Piller will produce. The trio were also responsible for the long-running “Dead Zone” TV show, based off a King story . That show, about a man who wakes from a coma only to discover he has psychic powers, which he uses to help the local cops solve crimes, ran for six seasons on basic cable before saying its goodbyes last year.

Untitled Alien Invasion Series: Produced by Steven Speilberg starring Noah Wylie and Moon Bloodgood is going into production. I expect Jan. 2011 premiere date. Greg Beeman from Smallville ( he directed the SUPER finale that aired last night) , Heroes and Melrose is working on the show.

THE GATES: (ABC)

Nestled inside a private mountain community are The Gates. The image of perpetual suburban bliss, each street is lined with perfectly manicured homes protected by the massive iron gates, but a dark and delicious secret is buried just beneath the surface of this picturesque neighborhood - More vampires..........just pray it ain't more Vampire diaries!!!

It's featuring one of my favourite English rose's.....Rhona MITRA....currently playing KIVA in SGU.......she nice!!!

These all show potential and should be good additions to the returning shows. Can't wait. More trailers when they hit the web.
